Riemannian Topology and Geometric Structures on Manifolds results from a similarly entitled conference held at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. We will show that these are most elegantly described by an extension of ordinary Riemannian geometry termed generalized geometry, first introduced by Hitchin. The simplest model of Riemann's non-Euclidean geometry is the sphere. In the elliptic space of Riemannian geometry the sum of angles in a triangle always exceeds 180 degrees. This is the fundamental theorem of Riemannian geometry: Theorem 1 There is a unique symmetric connection {\nabla} on {M} compatible with {g} . For a Riemannian manifold $M$, the geometry, topology and analysis are interrelated in ways that are widely explored in modern mathematics. Riemannian geometry - contents. In particular, in this preliminary lecture, I will quickly review the basic notions of infinitesimal (or microlocal) Riemannian geometry, and in particular defining the Riemann, Ricci, and scalar curvatures of a Riemannian manifold.
